Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Remodel in St. Louis Park

612 Design Remodels Kitchen in 100-Year-Old St. Louis Park Home

Homes that were built a century ago are abundant in charm and character. 612 Design, Minneapolis’s top kitchen remodelers and designers, recently had the opportunity to work on such a home nestled in the heart of St. Louis Park. This 100-year-old farmhouse, located by the Interlachen Country Club and not far from 50th and France, begged for thoughtful updating.

The spacious kitchen had not been remodeled since the 1970s, and it was in desperate need of modernization while retaining the rustic farmhouse feel. Keeping in tune with the client’s aesthetic taste, which had a Southern flair, we painted the walls a warm yellow and complemented with bright white cabinets. Introducing a knotty hickory wood accent in the cabinetry and the island added a rustic element that blends nicely with the birch floors. The birch was selected to match the existing wood floors on the home’s first level, which were sanded down and refinished. The remodeled St. Louis Park kitchen features stainless steel DCS appliances, with the microwave built into the island. The result is a clean, bright, modern kitchen with touches of rustic farmhouse to stay true to the century-old home’s roots.

Adjoining the kitchen is a mudroom that previously had only a window overlooking a lovely screened-in porch at the back of the house. The client wanted to be able to access the porch from the mudroom, so we replaced the window with an elegant French door. Continuing with the rustic hickory, we built a customized cabinet and bench area with convenient shoe and coat storage, making the area a functional entry point into the home.
